Happy New Year from your friends at Public Interactive!

Looking back, it’s been a very busy year!  We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, and are looking forward to what is coming in 2010. To better serve you, we’re currently hard at work on the next version of our core platform, among other things. This new platform will make it even easier for you to engage with your listeners online.

Some highlights from the past year include:

Composer Basic

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

We’re pleased to announce that Composer Basic is now live for stations who are not Composer Pro clients to manage their SoundExchange reporting data. It’s been launched just in time for stations to use to deliver your Q4 reporting data (from within October 1 - December 31, 2009) which are due to us by Friday, January 15, 2010.

Composer Basic is the tool you will now use to manage your station’s contact and stream information with us for SoundExchange reporting, upload playlist and/or streaming log files, specify your chosen quarterly reporting weeks and access completed reports that we have generated and submitted to SoundExchange on your behalf. Composer Basic will also allow you to specify your weekly schedules to let us know what syndicated programming you stream, so that we can collect those playlists and integrate them into your SoundExchange reports. Composer Pro clients, rest assured, you already have access to these features.

Public Interactive in Current on SoundExchange

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Public Interactive’s own Debra May Hughes and Phil Johnson were interviewed in the latest issue of Current about the SoundExchange webcasting royalty deal between public broadcasting and the recording industry, and what it means to local pubcasters.

Haven’t read it yet?  Here’s your chance.

Angst in studios over webcasting pact
Pubcasters got lower royalties, but they’re stressed over reporting rules .

PRPD: Eliminate SoundExchange Stress w/ Dr. Phil and Friends

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Suffering from online music reporting stress? Attend our PRPD roundtable discussion on music rights and SoundExchange (SX) reporting. Phil Johnson (aka: Dr. Phil) reports on how we’re doing, reporting requirements, what you need to know about the upcoming Q3 deadline and an exclusive first look at reporting tools coming to your station. Panelists will provide history and details behind the agreement and a primer on internet music rights and royalties. After a brief presentation we open the session to questions on the complicated and evolving world of music rights and responsibilities in new media. Alleviate reporting stress and ask questions about what is and is not allowed for streaming.

Debra May Hughes - VP/Exec. Director, Public Interactive
Jeff Luchsinger - Director of Radio System Investment, CPB

PRDMC Session: SX Education

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

SX Education
Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About SoundExchange Reporting, but were Afraid to Ask
Wednesday, July 8, from 11:30AM to 12:30PM

Does your station stream online? Then you should attend this informative session brought to you by Public Interactive and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB recently announced its selection of NPR’s Public Interactive (PI) to collect and report public radio music streaming activities to SoundExchange, a performance rights organization which collects and distributes royalties to artists and copyright owners. PI will serve as the central music stream reporting vehicle for all public radio streamers, including CPB supported stations, NPR, NPR member stations, National Federation of Community Broadcasters members, American Public Media (APM), the Public Radio Exchange (PRX) and Public Radio International (PRI).
Find out what will be required of your station, come with questions pertaining to your station, and leave with easy-to-understand info sheets.
