Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About SoundExchange Reporting, but were Afraid to Ask
Wednesday, July 8, from 11:30AM to 12:30PM
Does your station stream online? Then you should attend this informative session brought to you by Public Interactive and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB recently announced its selection of NPR’s Public Interactive (PI) to collect and report public radio music streaming activities to SoundExchange, a performance rights organization which collects and distributes royalties to artists and copyright owners. PI will serve as the central music stream reporting vehicle for all public radio streamers, including CPB supported stations, NPR, NPR member stations, National Federation of Community Broadcasters members, American Public Media (APM), the Public Radio Exchange (PRX) and Public Radio International (PRI).
Find out what will be required of your station, come with questions pertaining to your station, and leave with easy-to-understand info sheets.

As you may know, CPB has selected us to take on the central role in collecting and reporting public radio music streaming information to the SoundExchange. To help you get started, we’ll send informative emails, host a series of webinars and speak at the major conferences, starting with the PRDMC. If you have reporting questions, please contact Phil Johnson, our SoundExchange manager, phil@publicinteractive.com, 617-423-4499 x138.
Stations that use both Public Interactive Composer and our live streaming services will not need to do anything beyond registering with the CPB and PI! Stations that do not use PI’s Composer or streaming services will just need to upload streaming usage or playlist log files to us.
If you’re interested in learning more about our Composer or live streaming services, please contact me or Joe Orlando at 617-423-4499 x123, moreinfo@publicinteractive.com

Throughout 2007 and 2008, Public Interactive has worked with public broadcasters to better understand how to effectively engage audiences online. We gathered experience directly from dozens of stations and programs such as KQED, Oregon Public Broadcasting, and Car Talk® using our online community engagement tool. One important lesson, particularly for those new to online engagement, is that it takes creativity and persistence to engage individuals and get their participation.
The Center for Social Media, as part of this year’s Beyond Broadcast conference, asked us to put together what we’ve learned to distribute to all conference attendees:
Eight Ways to Help Build Online Participation (PDF).

In preparation for this year’s Beyond Broadcast conference taking place on June 17th in Washington, DC, The Center for Social Media featured a nice writeup on our Public Action software. Each year, Beyond Broadcast explores the evolution of participatory digital public media. Won’t you join us?
We’ll also be demoing Public Action at the 2:45 demo/networking session and again during the closing reception at 4:30. Look for the Public Interactive table - and we hope to see you there!
